The GREATS of the Hellenistic Empire
Government- Government- Alexander the Great wanted to rule the Hellenistic region with a united Greek-Persian ruling class. When he died, the vision went with him. Greek rulers and their descendants continued to control the region. Since they were so far away, the Greek culture was present in the region but wasn't followed as much as it was in Greece, because the people who lived there kept their religions, languages and culture.

Three Goddesses (Phidias)
Three Goddesses, a marble sculpture attributed to Phidias, depicts the goddesses Hestia, Dione, and Aphrodite. The sculpture, originially part of the east pediment of the Parthenon in Athens, is now on display at the British Museum. It is among the architectural details removed from Greece by British aristocrat Thomas Bruce Elgin in the early-19th century. [Joe Crea] (Added by Colton Bader)Technology- During the Hellenistic Empire, there were many advances in sciences. This is because of the wealth of Alexander, and he was able to spend a lot of time and money experimenting with new sciences and developing them. Aristarchus of Samos created the first model of the universe; Ptolemy I and Ptolemy II Philadelphus founded the Library of Alexandria in Egypt; and Eratosthenes of Cyrene calculated a fairly accurate circumference of the of the Earth. When it came to war, a catapult was made to fling animal carcasses over the walls of cities. Archimedes created a crane-like invention used to pick up ships and hit them against rocky shores.
Hellenistic warriors used catapults during war.
(Added by Vicky)Society-
The Hellenistic Empire was founded under the rule of Alexander the great, who culturally diffused the area, and the Persians, and other regions, were now Greek.
Alexander The Great had founded many Greek cities, to ensure that Greek culture would remain prominent. The most famous of these cities was Alexandria, in Egypt.
The Hellenistic empire was divided into two mane cultural areas, the Oriental (Eastern), and Occidental (Western), which had different views on their culture.
Summary of achievements of the Hellenistic Empire: The Hellenistic Empire was one of very many advancements, much money was spent on science, and so, they became the most scientifically advanced empire in the world. They had a rich culture, that made the society great and educated. They were even perhaps the best artists on the planet, but not only sculptures and drawings were their art, they were also one of the most military advanced groups in the world. All in all, the Hellenistic Empire advanced noticeably, and made the best progress out of any civilization I have ever seen.
